Hi, we are Greg and Elaine Friend. We live in Tumut NSW, a small country town not too far from Canberra and pretty equidistant between Sydney and Melbourne. Famous for its connection to the Snowy Hydro Scheme, acres of riverside parks and The Falling Leaf Festival, when the plentiful deciduous trees put on a show in Autumn.

Our interest in bugs came initially when we adopted a Pygmy Stimson (Childrens) Python and then later a Bluetongue lizard. They now both have very well established bioactive enclosures with plenty of Springtails and isopods to clean up after them. Our cleanup crews take care of all the waste produced by our reptiles including their shed skin and all we do is provide food & water for the reptiles and water their enclosures once a week!

For the last 5 years, while working full-time jobs we have been slowly growing our collection of springtail and isopod colonies from scratch, and got excited by the many (but limited) variants of Isopods in Australia. Our stock is 100% captive bred to ensure the hygiene of their new habitat. While developing our colonies, we began to experiment with sharing our bugs with others. After a few successful deliveries to family, friends and workmates (who were surprisingly open to testing their own little colonies for a while), we initially used eBay as our major selling platform.

By Mid 2025 we had sold over 500 combinations of insects to our happy eBay customers and our popularity is still growing with increased interest in Terrariums and the use of bioactive environments in Vivariums. We have many repeat customers, expanding their collections as we expanded ours or simply maintaining or expanding existing habitats. Here is a link to some of their feedback.
